South Asian countries need help to develop clean renewable energy: the alternative is increased global warming and pollution

South Asian countries need help to develop clean renewable energy - the alternative is increased global warming and pollution: The 1.4 billion people of South Asia are singularly deficient in energy, particularly clean energy. Low per capita consumption of energy is an indicator and a cause of povery in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Nepal. While South Asia is home to more than 20% of the world’s population its energy consumption is only 7%. Nevertheless, satellite pictures reveal a disturbing column of haze and smoke extending from Bangladesh all the way to Pakistan. This is believed to be caused by smoke from wood fires used for cooking. Indoor pollution is major source of respiratory diseases among mothers and children. Another adverse consequence is the severe deforestation in South Asia which is believed to have made the summers and winters drier and hotter.
